GOYA foods has donated 1 million pounds of food to help those affected by Hurricane Maria. The donation comes as part of their sponsorship of the 2018 Greater Hartford Puerto Rican Parade & Festival del Coquí in Hartford, CT.
The company operates a plant on the island and once they were able to get back up and running, they began helping wherever they could, with donations surpassing 1 million pounds.
The company has collected and donated an additional 200,000 pounds of food and water through efforts by its US-based employees. GOYA also donated food to Puerto Ricans relocated to the Hartford area after the devastating storm hit the island in September.
The 2018 Greater Hartford Puerto Rican Parade & Festival del Coquí takes place this Saturday, June 2 and will be broadcast on television for the first time.
The day marks a welcome day of celebration for the 50,000 Puerto Ricans living in the Hartford area.
