Hart has heart

Kevin Hart has announced the start of the Help from the Hart Charity program, which will provide scholarships for students seeking their college degree.

The fund will start with a $600,000 commitment from the actor and comedian. In partnership with the United Negro College Fund, the program will help to send 18 students of KIPP charter schools from eight different cities to college.

KIPP, or the Knowledge is Power Program, is a network of 224 college-preparatory, public charter schools across the country.

The students were selected based on need and academic and personal accomplishments and will all attend historically black college and universities.

Hart, knowing that the need to send more talented youth to college remains a large issue, promised this is just the beginning of his impact.

“Education and knowledge are powerful... This is just the beginning; trust me when I tell you there are a lot more kids who want to go to college who don’t have the money to make it happen.”
