A check off the bucket list: David Thomas goes to the beach

At 36 years old, David Thomas had left his hometown of Jefferson, Alabama, once in his life. Living with cerebral palsy, he never thought he would leave again. Recently, his friends surprised him with a trip to the beach.

It was always Thomas's dream to go to the beach, but he never thought he would be able to. But he was recently surprised with a visit to Panama City Beach with his church family. He recalls the feeling of sand between his toes and the sounds of waves crashing:

"If I never experience this again, I'm going to enjoy it right now and live in the moment and thank God for what it is," Thomas told wjhg.

Thomas has been in a wheelchair for his entire life, so travel is not the easiest thing to do. "I have been in a wheelchair all my life. I've never been able to walk. I've always been in a wheelchair and, you know, I just try to make the best of my life, the best of my situation. Thank God for whatever it is because I realize that it could always be worse."

He wants this story to inspire people, especially those who are also in wheelchairs, to continue to follow their dreams.

"If there is anybody in a wheelchair looking at this: never give up on your dreams."
